Online Lecture: “OpenAlex—The Largest Open-Access Database of Scientific Papers”

The KPI Library invites researchers from Igor Sikorsky KPI and anyone interested to join the online lecture “OpenAlex: The Largest Open Database of Scientific Papers.”

In this online lecture, we will discuss OpenAlex—an open alternative to commercial scientometric platforms that brings together hundreds of millions of publications, authors, and institutions and is accessible to everyone via API and open data. The lecture will be useful for researchers, librarians, analysts, and anyone who works with scientific data.

Key points:

• how search works in OpenAlex;
• what is known about data quality, its limitations, and biases;
• why openness does not mean accuracy;
• how to properly use OpenAlex for research and evaluation.

We will also discuss how OpenAlex fits into the modern open science ecosystem and why the issue today is no longer about access to data, but about its interpretation.
