All-Ukrainian Library Day
On this All-Ukrainian Library Day, we felt in a special way the power of community and the living connection of history that unites generations.
The round table dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the Community Space Library building brought together the people without whom it would not have been built in its current form: those who designed, built, decorated, dreamed, and brought it to life.
Mykhailo Yukhymovych Ilchenko, Chairman of the Academic Council of Igor Sikorsky KPI, addressed the participants with opening remarks. Vitalii Vyacheslavovych Tatarchuk, Head of the Research Department of History of KPI at the Boris Paton State Polytechnic Museum at KPI, recalled the origins of the Library’s history.
Eduard Opanasovich Nazarenko, Vice-Rector of KPI in 1971–1992, who personally oversaw the creation of the new university complex, spoke about how the project was born and how the construction took place.
People’s Artist of Ukraine Volodymyr Ivanovych Pasivenko shared with us what inspired him while working on the monumental panel “Man and Nature.”
Professor Serhii Sydorenko and Oleksii Novikov, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Physics and Technology at KPI, spoke about the involvement of students and university staff in the creation of the Library.
The video message from Olena Volodymyrivna Lykhovodova, daughter of the author and head of the KPI architectural complex project Volodymyr Ivanovych Lykhovodov, was very touching. She talked about her father and his work on the creation of the Library building.
We would like to thank our esteemed speakers, moderators, and everyone who was with us on this day. It was a warm, sincere, and very important day for us.
