ORCID as the basis of modern scientific identification for institutional repositories

The KPI Library, as the coordinator of the Ukrainian Repository Core, is launching a series of professional webinars dedicated to the development of Ukraine’s repository infrastructure and the implementation of international open science standards.

The first webinar in the series “ORCID as the basis of modern scientific identification for institutional repositories” will take place on May 26 at 14:00.

Key aspects:

  • what is ORCID iD and how does the ORCID system work;
  • why international scientific publishers, grant programs and repositories require the use of ORCID;
  • how ORCID helps to avoid problems of ambiguous author identification;
  • how to integrate ORCID into repository systems (DSpace, EPrints and others);
  • how ORCID authentication workflows work;
  • how ORCID interacts with other components of the open science infrastructure;
  • how to ensure the correct description of authors, affiliations and scientific results;
  • What are the international ORCID implementation practices used by universities and research institutions in Europe?

International Scientific and Practical Conference “Library Development Strategies: From Concept to Implementation”

The KPI Library and the Ukrainian Library Association invite you to participate in the 4th International Scientific and Practical Conference “Library Development Strategies: From Concept to Implementation,” to be held June 17–19, 2026, in Kyiv at the KPI Library.
Conference theme: “Leadership in the Context of Social Change.”
Working languages: Ukrainian, English.
Format: hybrid – in-person and remote (via Zoom)
Target audience: managers and leading specialists from libraries, information, educational, and sociocultural institutions, as well as anyone interested in library development.
Registration: by May 31, 2026, via the link.

Registration fee:
online participation: 150 UAH (ULA member/partner), 200 UAH (non-member/non-partner);
in-person participation: 300 UAH (ULA member/partner), 400 UAH (non-member/non-partner of the ULA).

Embroidery: traditions of family, people, country

Friends!
We invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Vyshyvanka: traditions of the family, people, country”.

The exhibition will feature exhibits from the collection of local history scholar, Kyiv historian and graduate of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Oksana Salan. This is an opportunity to get to know Ukrainian embroidery better – its symbolism, regional features and stories stored in patterns.

During the opening, Ms. Oksana will give a lecture-presentation in which she will talk about the exhibits of the exhibition and the traditions of Ukrainian embroidery.

World Embroidery Day

Friends, on May 21, we celebrate World Embroidery Day!

And traditionally, we invite the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute community to spend this day together – in good company, with warm meetings and a festive atmosphere.

The program includes:

  • 12:00 – traditional planting of viburnum bushes near the Library;
  • 12:30 – charity fair;
  • 13:00 – performance by bandurists of the Central Music Chamber of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute;
  • 13:30 – opening of the exhibition “Embroidery: traditions of family, people, country” and a lecture by local historian Oksana Salan.

Presentation of the books “The Adventures of Mark and Khark”

Verifying Papers in the Age of AI

The KPI Library invites you to join the methodological seminar “Verifying Papers in the Age of AI”, which the StrikePlagiarism.com team will hold specifically for Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

The meeting will be dedicated to modern approaches to ensuring academic integrity and practical aspects of verifying student papers in higher education institutions.

Key aspects:

  • working with a similarity report and its interpretation;
  • detecting text manipulations and hidden modifications;
  • analyzing AI-generated content;
  • practical cases of verifying academic papers;
  • modern tools to support academic integrity.

The format of the event includes a practical demonstration of the capabilities of the StrikePlagiarism.com system, discussion of real-world usage scenarios, and exchange of experience in implementing effective academic integrity policies.

The KPI Library invites researchers from Igor Sikorsky KPI and anyone interested to join the online lecture “FAIR Data as the Norm: Building a Culture of Proper Research Data Management.”

Technological risks: where science ends and responsibility begins

Friends! We invite you to a talk with Olena Parenyuk—a radiobiologist, researcher of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, and co-author of the book “The Terrible, the Beautiful, and the Grotesque in Chernobyl”.

Chernobyl needs no special effects—it is striking in its own right. We’ll have an honest and scientific discussion about radiation, the consequences of the accident, microorganisms, and the myths that still surround this topic.

In her talk about how Chernobyl continues to affect Ukraine today, the researcher combines current scientific data with her personal experience working in the exclusion zone.

Online Lecture: “Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism: Where Is the Line?”

The KPI Library invites researchers from Igor Sikorsky KPI and anyone interested to join the online lecture “Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism: Where Is the Line?”, which will take place as part of the open lecture series “Academic Integrity: Rules of the Game or a Matter of Honor.”

In today’s academic environment, the issue of academic integrity is one of the most critical. Using others’ or even one’s own previous work without proper citation can lead to serious reputational risks. But where is the line between acceptable use and a violation?

Key aspects:

  • what constitutes plagiarism and self-plagiarism in the modern academic context, and what distinguishes them;
  • where the line is drawn regarding the permissible reuse of one’s own texts and data;
  • how to properly cite references to one’s own previous work;
  • what common mistakes researchers make;
  • how plagiarism detection systems work;
  • how to avoid violations and maintain your academic reputation.
