Books about tea: a lecture of the Tea Club
Tea Club continues its meetings!
We would like to inform you that the next meeting of the Tea Club will be held on the 17th of November. The topic will be books about tea.
The oldest «tea» book is the treatise «Tea Canon» by Chinese scientist and writer Lu Yu, written in the VIII century.
And today there are a lot of books about tea ceremonies, its history in different countries, tea eqiupage and varieties of tea…
So let’s talk! We invite future guests of the club to recall what books they know about the ‘tea’ topic. Make a cup of fragrant tea and join the conversation!
We start, as usual, at 19:00 on the Zoom platform.

Famous Poles – students of the Kyiv educational institutions
On the 11th of November 11 Poland celebrates its national holiday – Independence Day. On this day a lecture on the topic «Famous Poles – students of Kyiv educational institutions» will be held as a part of the series of historical studies «Think about it».
In the late XIX – early XX century a significant part of the population of Kyiv and Kyiv region were ethnic Poles. Many of them studied in Kyiv – at the University of St. Volodymyr, Polytechnic and Commercial Institutes, local gymnasiums and other educational institutions. Among them were well-known Polish public figures, scientists, writers, artists.
Several of the most famous names , such as Vyacheslav Lypynsky, Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz, Bolesław Leśmian, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz and others, will be mentioned during a lecture given by a well-known Kyiv historian, a graduate of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, a longtime friend of our library – Mykhailo Kalnytskyi.
The lecture will be the first dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Kyiv Polytechnic Students Section in Poland.
So, the meeting in Zoom will take place on the 11th of November, starting at 18:00.

XXI All-Ukrainian dictation of national unity
We invite students, teachers, employees of Igor Sikorsky KPI and all those who want to write the XXI All-Ukrainian dictation of national unity with the KPI Library.
As always, the event will take place on the Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language, 9th of November, from 10:00 to 11:00.
The author and reader of this year’s radio dictation will be the writer Yuriy Andrukhovych. Larysa Masenko joined the methodical work.
The time to send the finished text is 24 hours. The text of the dictation will be published on the website of Ukrainian Radio on the 11th of November at 11:00.
You can send your works:
Offline to the address: Kyiv, Khreshchatyk street, 26, 01001. It is important that the postal seal was earlier than the 10th of November;
Online your work can be sent to the email rd@ukr.radio.
After the dictation text is published, the letters are not valid.

Screening of the movie «La Notte» from the PostArt project
There will be a screening of the movie «La Notte» this Friday.
Year: 1961.
Genre: drama
Director: Michelangelo Antonioni
Starring: Marcello Mastroianni, Monica Vitti, Jeanne Moreau.
«La Notte» is a second movie from the ‘alienation trilogy’ of Antonioni.
The movie is focused on the complicated relationships between people.
Marcello Mastroianni and Jeanne Moreau play a couple of main characters, Giovanni and Lidia. Giovanni is successful writer, while Lidia is a rich heiress. Their marriage is falling apart due to Giovanni’s self-proclaimed crisis.
While the simple plot unravels, Antonioni explores characters’ emotions, shows the loss of love and respect.
Screening is free on condition of prior registration.
Attention! The movie is screened in the original language with English subtitles.

On the history of KPI university laboratories
We invite you to the next lecture of the cycle «Stories about the life of old study books» that will be held on the 27th of October on the Zoom platform at 19:00.
The topic of the lecture is «On the history of KPI university laboratories». Seals and stamps of various divisions of the Institute have been left on the pages of many publications of the library.
And quite a lot of them are the seals of some laboratories: «Политехническій Институтъ. Лабораторія технологіи органическихъ веществъ»; «К.П.И. Библіотека Лабораторіи неорганической химіи»; «Красильная лабораторія Киевс. Политехнич. Инст.»; «Металургічна лабораторія Київського Політехніч. Інст.»; and others.
The questions that will be the subject of the next conversation are: when the laboratories were formed, how they worked and what they taught, which of the professors supervised the practical and laboratory work.
Employees of the rare and valuable books collection will try to open another interesting page in the history of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
