We continue to get acquainted with the musical trends of the twentieth century. A new topic is atonal music, a revolution in the art of music. What are its causes? What is its result? And what are its consequences? 

The embodiment of atonality was the work of Arnold Schoenberg, one of the brightest composers of the twentieth century, who influenced the development of music around the world during his lifetime.

Presentation of Oleksandr Demariov’s book «Day till the Evening»

We invite you to the presentation of a book recommended for reading by all connoisseurs of quality Ukrainian prose of the 21st century. 

The book «Day till the Evening» is directly related to KPI. The author, Oleksandr Demariov, graduated from KPI (Faculty of Sociology and Law) in 2016. He studied for three years in graduate school (Department of Philosophy), but instead of a dissertation he wrote a book. 

The last third of the book is about the protagonist’s studies at the university and it is indeed an artistic retelling of the real events.

Fantastic Course 3.0: Horror Fiction

Halloween is approaching – the time of costume parties, carving a lantern out of a pumpkin, and telling scary stories. 

So we want to talk about horror fiction. 

In ancient times, fear was giving a person a chance to survive in a dangerous, hostile world. But even now, in a comfortable and safe today, we strive to bring an extra dose of fear into our lives: thrillers, media, dangerous attractions. As paradoxical as it may sound, people like to be afraid! 

We will tell about the horrors that began with Gothic novels, rose to incredible heights thanks to Edgar Allan Poe, descended into the eerie depths of the afterlife with Howard Lovecraft, fed by Robert Bloch, Dean Kunz and finally overflowed and flooded all the shores by the texts of «King of the Horror» – Stephen King. 

This is a Fright Monster, who liked the feeling of fear, the feeling of complete loss of control over their feelings since childhood. A writer who writes so slowly that the reader realizes that he is in the hands of a maniac of the highest quality. But describes fictional horrors in order to help a person cope with the real ones.

We invite you to join the open dialogue «AcademicIntegrity: values ​​in daily actions. Ordered works».

Every third Wednesday in October is the International Day of Action against Contract Cheating, established by the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI). This day is designed to draw attention to the most pressing problem of today’s education and ask questions: why do students buy works, and some – write works that were ordered, what is their motivation and how to deal with this widespread phenomenon today. 

In the spring in the space of Igor Sikorsky KPI the first open dialogue about dishonest behavior among students and writing off as one of its main manifestations was held. On the 20th of October, there will be a second open discussion on academic integrity in daily university life, and the main topic will be ordered assignments. The event is held jointly by Department of Student Affairs, Library, Students Council, Trade Union Committee and Student Scienсe Association of Igor Sikorsky KPI. 

The following issues will be raised during the dialogue: 

• What motivates one student to order works, and other – to write the ordered works; 
• How to distinguish the purchased work from the authentic work of the student; 
• How to prevent bad behavior among the students and overcome existing problems and more.

Searching life in the solar system: a lecture by Yuliana Kuznetsova

Celebrate World Space Week with our favorite astronomer.

This time we will go on a short hitchhiking trip in the solar system looking for the answers to the following questions:

• where life can exist in the universe other than Earth;
• what conditions are necessary for the occurrence and existence of life on other planets;
• on which celestial bodies mankind should focus attention in search of signs of extraterrestrial life;
• what life forms we expect to find there;
• are there currently any data from space research that may indirectly indicate the possibility of the existence of extraterrestrial organisms;
• future missions to the planets and moons in search of signs of life in the solar system.

Yuliana Kuznetsova, a researcher at the Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, will tell about all that and even more.

You also have a unique opportunity to ask any questions in astronomy.

And in the clear evening sky we will watch the stars through the telescope.

Master class on aircraft and missile modeling

Then we invite you to a master class on the aircraft and missile modeling. What will we do? We will make models of airplanes (that will really be able to fly), and then we will look at the launch of missiles from the aviation and missile modeling club on the Square of Knowledge.

«Library is alive» – ​​a public report of the Library!

Traditionally, on the 30th of September, on the All-Ukrainian Day of Libraries, we will tell how we lived together this year.

You will learn how we:

• developed the Strategy, organized its public discussion and presentation at the Academic Council, how we are currently implementing it;
• provided services online and offline, what we did to keep quality and service on the same level;
• formed the informational resources of the Library for educational and scientific processes of the University;
• paid attention to the digital instruments, educational activities and consultations of the researchers; 
• events and learned to combine different formats; 
• created a modern educational space, inclusive environment and projects, popularized eco-habits by their own example.
