Feast of the King of Horrors
Stephen King turns 75 on September 21!
Most people on Earth know the «King of Horrors», the «Horrible Monster». His books are read without being able to put them down. Films are watched, frozen in horror. But if there is such a person who has not read or seen a single film, he still knows this surname.
We invite you to celebrate the writer’s anniversary together. In the program:
- mini-lecture about the author;
- familiarization with his works;
- viewing fragments of the film «Cat’s Eye»;
- and discussion.

Viruses. Life. Cosmos.: lecture by Andriy Potrokhov
We invite you to a popular science lecture within the framework of the «Peaceful Gatherings» project. We will learn:
- how viruses were discovered and what kind of biological objects they are;
- about the hypotheses of their origin and influence on evolution on the planet;
- is it possible for viruses to exist in space?
And at the end, we will discuss whether viruses are alive in the context of our understanding of life.

Our lecturer is Andrii Potrokhov, a leading engineer of the genetic engineering department of the Institute of Cell Biology and Genetic Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Cosmic ionizing radiation and the biosphere of Earth
This Thursday, we invite you to a popular science lecture as part of the «Peaceful Gatherings» project. We will learn:
- how did stellar «radiation» make possible the birth and development of life on our planet?
- what is ionizing radiation and how does it affect living organisms?
- how do distant stars affect life on Earth and cool the Earth?
- could a supernova burst destroy the biosphere?
- many more interesting things, and after the lecture, there will be a discussion.

Our lecturer is Serhiy Litvinov, candidate of biological sciences, and researcher at the Department of Biophysics and Radiobiology of the Institute of Cell Biology and Genetic Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Information literacy in English-language media: workshop
We invite you to the workshop «Information literacy in English-language media».
During the workshop, we will discuss the main components of information literacy:
- how and why do we get into the information bubble and how to get out of it?
- how do we develop critical thinking by asking questions?
- what tools are there that can help us verify information/news?

Cosmos and human: a lecture by Yuliana Kuznietsova
In Yuliana Kuznietsova’s previous lectures, we talked about planets, asteroids, and ecology in space. And this time the topic will be humans in space. We will learn:
- how does weightlessness affect the human condition?
- what is a solar activity?
- whether there is a connection between solar flares, human well-being, and weather conditions How dangerous are cosmic rays for humans?
- and about many other things.
And most importantly – we will discuss all of it!
Our lecturer is Yuliana Kuznietsova, a researcher at the Department of Physics of Substellar and Planetary Systems of the Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Photo exhibition «Vii, na»
We invite you to visit the photo exhibition «Vii, na».
You will see how our life has changed since the beginning of the full-scale war of russia against Ukraine.
The exhibition included 75 photographs taken by famous photographers and students of Ukrainian universities.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on August 23 at 3:30 p.m., right after the lecture «The History of the Ukrainian Flag».
The exhibition is located in the hall of the 1st floor of the KPI Library from August 23 to September 2 (except Saturday and Sunday).

History of the Ukrainian flag
We invite everyone to the lecture «History of the Ukrainian flag» dedicated to the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine. On it you will learn about:
- the history of world flags; the need for the creation and existence of the flag;
- changes and historical path of the national flag of Ukraine;
- modern realities of the flag of Ukraine in the context of nation formation;
- and many other useful information.
Lecturer Oleksiy Rudenko – chief artist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, member of the Ukrainian Heraldic Society, Honored Artist of Ukraine, member of the expert advisory group on military symbols, associate professor of the department of Graphics at the National Technical University of Ukraine «Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute».

The KPI Library invites you to the screening of the film «Hutsulka Ksenia».

The film is based on the operetta by Yaroslav Barnych According to the plot, Yaro, the son of an emigrant family, comes to Vorokhta. The millionaire father set him a condition that in order to inherit the money, the guy must marry a Ukrainian girl. So Yaro goes in search of his happiness.
